The college football season has started with the Ohio State Buckeyes returning from a perfect, no-loss season, now ranked number 4 by the Associated Press and ESPN.com power rankings. Game after game the Buckeyes showed out on the field, raking in a win after win for the 2012-13 football season. The teams played hard when the fruits of their labor were denied a bowl game opportunity due to the penalties incurred from the previous year. So the question becomes will this incredible momentum continue into the 2013-14 football season.
The season opens with the Buckeyes facing off in their home field against the Buffalo Bulls. In the first quarter of the game, the Buckeyes stomp into the lead with three touchdowns, 2 two-point conversions, and an extra point getting the OSU a 23 point lead over the Buffalo Bulls. The second game of the season has the Buckeyes squaring off to play San Diego State. In the first quarter, the game starts off with the Buckeyes losing their starting quarterback, Braxton Miller. Miller takes a hit, becoming pinned between two San Diego State players, injuring his left knee. This may have been something to shake most teams, but not the Buckeyes. Kenny Guiton steps in and the very next play he hands the ball off to Dontre Wilson for the first touchdown of the game. By the end of the 1st quarter, the Buckeyes were ahead 14 to 0 against San Diego State. The Buckeyes I stayed in control during the second quarter, with a 44-yard touchdown by Kenny Guiton and followed by a one-yard touchdown by Rod Smith. Third-quarter, the Buckeyes kept the pace moving with a touchdown added by Philly Brown. Then the San Diego State Aztecs scored on a pass from Quinn Kaehler to Chad Young. The game came to an end with a higher state winning 42 to 7 over San Diego State.
The first two games have left the Buckeyes in the top 5 rankings. After a power-packed previous season, will the Buckeyes be able to maintain another stellar record? Time will confirm all for the Ohio home team. However, the outlook for the team with a possible Heisman candidate and a backup line that steps up to the challenge when necessary is pretty good.
