Teen Suicide and Bullying by A'Tayia Nichols Suicide is one of the most common causes of death for a young citizen, between the ages of 15-24. A lot of reports and reviews between 2010-2013 has shown that over half of all teenagers are suffering from depression that causes the thought of suicide and that one out of ten teens actually succeeds on the first try. Now in 2013, there are a lot of reasons why a teen would want to kill themselves. Relationship problems, family issues, being bullied, even something that happened years ago that is still bothering them are all reasons suicide thoughts may occur. Bullying is the worst thing facing young people! Bullying has come a long way since the early 2000s. There are four types of bullying: cyberbullying, physical bullying, verbal bullying, and convert bullying. Believe it or not, convert and cyberbullying is the top two that goes on in an average teenage life. Don't get me wrong physical bullying happens often too but it's not as bad as the others. The various forms of bullying can do all types of things... things you would never imagine. Something you say or do can scar a person for life, making them feel worthless. That one thing you say or do to someone can even cost them their lives. This is serious! If you are being bullied there are plenty of different ways to prevent things from escalating. Examples: Tell the person to stop walk awayTry to act like it's not affecting youAsk a friend or family member for advice talk to your parent or guardianCyberbullying should be handled a little differently. If it is cyberbullying: Just don't respond to anything they say save the evidenceBlock themReport itTell trusted peopleThese tips should help save you or a friend from the depression that bullying can cause. I hope it will erase any suicidal thoughts. Because so many people hurt day after day, getting talked about and looked at differently. The sad thing is so many different people see what is happening or stand witness to what is going but do not try to stop it or help the person. This leaves the victim upset and feeling depressed, alone and feel like nobody cares enough to stop it. In the end, they feel suicide can solve their problems but it cannot and it will not.
