Shooting at Columbia Maryland Mall

Gunfire interrupts Saturday morning shopping in a Columbia Maryland mall, and what is normally a casual day of leisure erupts into a terrorizing race for cover. Around 11:15 am, 911 received the first calls for help and police were on the scene minutes later. The gunshots were reportedly heard from the second-level area as hundreds of people began frantically evacuating the mall. Members from SWAT began moving from store to store after the shooting stopped. A little after noon Eastern Time three people were confirmed dead, including the shooter. The bodies were found in Zumiez, a shop for skaters that employed two of the victims.

The names of the victims have been released as 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson. The shooter has been identified as 19-year-old Darion Marcus Aguilar. It is believed the gunman shot the two employees and then pulled the gun on himself. It is unclear why the shooting took place, adding to the increasing acts of random gun violence.
